MADISON, Illinois – They say your second career victory is much tougher then the first. Bjarne Laursen proved that wrong Saturday afternoon under rainy conditions at the Gateway International Raceway.
For the second time in three weeks the 30 year old Dane led a race high 132 laps on his route to his second career win.
Early on, pole sitter Michel Berk was the only car that looked to give Laursen a run for the win but two consecutive green flag pit mistakes took the No. 24 team out of contention and later on out of the race.
On lap 148, Vova Bykoff driving the No. 12 Agee Motorsports Toyota entry brought out the final caution of the day. The caution set up a shootout to the end between Laursen and Cedric Lungeri who put up a fight but in the end Laursen was able to hold off the hard charging H˛ Auto Racing Ford by 0.22 seconds.
Lungeri finished second, Bykoff third, with Bart Van Nevel and Roger Thellbro rounding out the top five.
The race was slowed by six cautions for 22 laps with 4 lead changes among four drivers.
The ESCORS Alienware Series will visit the O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis next Saturday for the running of the ORP 150. Defending race winner Michel Berk will be looking to defend his title.
